Official rules for the Weekend of Innovation hackathon.

Event Dates

July 26-28, 2024. Final presentations on July 30, 2024.

All times are Pacific Time (PT).

Submission period

Each team should determine the project it wants to deliver and write a brief description of that project (1-2 pages). Include what problem you intend to solve, how you will solve it, and how your team is prepared to deliver on this problem.

Schedule office hours to have your project reviewed and receive final approval. Then enter your project into Devpost. Be sure to include all your team members as project participants.

All teams must have final approval and declare their project in Devpost by Thursday July 25 at 4:00 PM.

Hacking period

Team hacking period is Friday July 26 beginning at 5:00 PM.

Team hacking ends (code freeze) Sunday, July 28 at 12:00 PM.

Presentations take place Sunday, July 28, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM.

Final presentations for the teams that make it to the final round take place Tuesday, July 30.

Entire team must be present during contest hours.

Your team depends on you and your contribution to your project. If you must leave due to an emergency, let your team and the hackathon managers know in advance.

Judging period

Judging start: Sunday, July 28, at 1:00 PM (or when the first team presentation begins.)

Finalists announced: Sunday, July 28, 4:00 PM (or shortly after the final presentation.)

Final presentations to the judges and all-Esri take place Tuesday, July 30.

Winners announced Tuesday, July 30, after the final presentations are complete and the judges have completed their scoring.

Judges scoring is final.

Eligibility

Open only to interns of Esri’s summer 2024 program.

All participants must complete the registration form provided by Esri's Intern management and submitted by the registration deadline.

All eligible participants will be assigned a team by Esri's Intern management.

Each team must create a project submission with the approved project in Devpost before the submission deadline, schedule office hours with the hackathon mentors, and have their project proposal approved by a mentor on or before Thursday July 25 at 4:00 PM.

All participants must agree to these rules and the code of conduct in order to be eligible to participate.

Submission Requirements

Submissions will be judged on content developed during the hackathon submission period by the hackathon team members only. Any component developed before the hackathon submission period is not eligible for judging. Any component submitted that was not developed by the hackathon team is not eligible for judging.

All teams must declare their participation by the team entry deadline by completing a project submission. All project submissions must be approved by the Intern Hackathon mentors before the deadline of July 25.

All code must be submitted to a public GitHub repository and available for the judges and event organizers to access.

All projects submitted must use ArcGIS APIs in some way. Projects submitted that do not use ArcGIS developer technology are not eligible for judging and prizes.

All submissions must use only publicly released APIs, SDKs, software, and services. Since the submissions are made to public GitHub repositories, and our goal is to show your project off on a public facing website, we cannot accept submissions that use internally available non-public components.

All submissions must be completed on Devpost with all required attributes.

If additional hardware is required, it is the team's responsibility to make it available to the judges during the judging period.

Submission Rights & Display

Esri maintains full rights to the resulting project and maintains the right to continue further development of the idea.

Esri will have the right to include the project on its website or promotional materials.

Code of conduct

All participants are required to abide by Esri's code of conduct.
